Chumphon
Province
Chumphon Province is also named the Golden Gate to the South.
It is located 463km south of Bangkok and is known mainly as
a hub for travellers going to or coming from Koh Tao. But
Chumphon has to offer a lot more than that.
Thung
Wua Laen Beach is a major popular beach. Dive trips can be
organised at the Chumphon Cabana Resort (077 560 245) to the
outlying islands of the archipelago. Koh Ngam Yai is ideal
for snorkeling as corals lie in shallow water. Koh Ngam Noi
is off-limit for tourists as it is occupied by birdnest concession.
Koh Lak Ngam has spectacular underwater landscape covered
by sea anemones.
The
province has one of the best preserved national parks in the
South of Thailand. Chumphon Town is easy to explore; it's
main source of income is by fishery. City Hotels and Guest
Houses, as well as plenty of excellent restaurants, attract
with their moderate prices.
The
main road leading directly to the railway station changes
at sunset into a night-market, with plenty of food stalls
offering delicious Thai food. The National Museum will satisfy
your cultural interests and history.
Professional
travel agents provide transfers, accomodation and package
deals. You will find resorts located on beautiful, empty beaches
, a 'must' for eco-lovers, couples and divers.
Mini
busses, VIP buses and trains are leaving every day, and the
nearby airport schedules flights from/to Bangkok thrice a
week.
